THE OVERVIEW

ENTRY 1

“Never underestimate the valuable and important difference you make in every life you touch for the impact you make today has a powerful rippling effect on every tomorrow.”

Leon Brown

This is my first entry! I hope this blog will eventually reach the point where I can truly impact others, but I know this is only the beginning. Welcome to all my readers!

OVERVIEW

My name is Bernard Lee, a sixteen year old from California. A couple of years ago, I started to realize that “there was something wrong with me.” I started to notice compulsive behaviors, and strange urges to do strange things. I told no one and tried to hide my actions, as I felt embarrassed and worried that people would view me differently. I did not even tell my mom, the person that I considered myself closest with. As the years passed, everything was within me, and I started to develop more anxiety. The reason I started this blog is because I have many goals that I want to achieve. I want to let people know that having OCD is okay. However, in order to do that, first I must convince myself that OCD is something I shouldn’t be embarrassed about. Even after approximately five years, the only people I have ever told about my condition was my family. No one else, not even my closest friends know. This blog is the place where I finally tell my story, and is only the beginning of my mental health journey. OCD is a common disorder, but it is often overlooked and considered by many a non-serious condition. OCD has completely changed my life, and I want to bring awareness about it to society. As I learn to live with OCD, I want to express my own feelings, but I also wish to inspire others to seek for help, and possibly share their own stories one day.

  1. Wow I relate so much to this and it’s honestly astonishing how much I can relate. I never thought about having OCD but with this post and how much I can relate to this, I feel like I should get tested for this. Thanks for all the information, this really helped! Good lucky on journey! I’ll make sure to keep up with it.

  2. This is honestly so crazy to think about that someone you know very dearly can be suffering from OCD or other forms of disorders. Thank you for giving others a platform to open up about their disorders! Best of luck on your journey as I will be here watching every moment of it in support of you!

  3. I’ve lived with OCD my entire life and didn’t reveal it to anyone until my adulthood. I only wish I had told people sooner rather than later because it is only through human connection that we realize we aren’t alone in this and that we can live normal lives. I applaud you, Bernard, in taking this very important step towards awareness of anxiety disorders. Keep expressing yourself, achieve your goals and live life to the fullest!
